Short intro: CARMINE’s overarching goal is to help the metropolitan communities become more climate resilient, by co-producing knowledge-based tools, strategies and plans for enhanced adaptation and mitigation actions addressing the Charter of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change by 2030.
Description: The project prioritizes local adaptation strategies, including traditional methods and nature-based solutions. To showcase our methodology, we digitally replicate the climate and socio-economic characteristics of eight selected case study areas, in which we establish Living Labs. We develop tools, strategies, and plans aimed at enhancing adaptation and mitigation efforts, and bolster the resilience of European metropolitan communities to climate change by offering decision support services and implementing multi-level climate governance.
The selected Case Study Areas have diverse socio-economic profiles, types of communities, vulnerabilities, climate impacts drivers and geographical distribution across Europe.
The tools and solutions that CARMINE develops are the Living Labs, an ATLAS of Climate Resilience, Digital Twins, Impact-Based Decision Support Service, Policy Pathways and federated Data Management Solution.
Expected outcomes of the Project:
• Support to the implementation of the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change and the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, by enabling better informed adaptation plans and strategies at the regional and local level.
• Strengthen science-based decision-making when it comes to resilience and disaster risk management, including on the role of nature-based solutions.
• Stronger local adaptive capacity.
• Improved synergies between national, regional and local Green Deal objectives, in particular adaptation action.
• Better coordinated and more impactful R&I activities on adaptation modelling and risk assessment.
