The International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC) is pleased to announce that the next
International Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC13) will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, during
August 14–18, 2028, followed by ICUC14 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2030. The exact dates of
the 2030 conference will be announced later.
Earlier this year, IAUC members were invited to vote on the location of ICUC13 from four
candidate cities. The bid from Glasgow Caledonian University received the largest share of the
vote, with 42%, followed by the bid led by the State University of Rio de Janeiro, with 31%.
The original call for conference bids invited proposals for both ICUC13 and ICUC14. Following
the vote, the IAUC Board confirmed Glasgow as the host of ICUC13 in accordance with the
membership preference.
In considering ICUC14, the Board also took into account the strong and sustained support for
Rio de Janeiro. Rio received the second-highest number of votes in the ICUC13 ballot and had
also placed second in the previous selection process for ICUC12. With the Rio organizing team
willing to host ICUC14, the Board agreed to select Rio de Janeiro as the host of ICUC14 in
2030.
The IAUC Board thanks all bidding teams for the substantial effort involved in preparing
excellent proposals, as well as all IAUC members who participated in the voting process. The
strong interest across all candidate cities reflects the continued vitality and international reach of
our urban climate community.
Further information on ICUC13 and ICUC14 will be shared as planning progresses.
