The International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) warmly invite you to the joint 11th International Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC11) to be held in Sydney, Australia, from August 28th to September 1st, 2023.
Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) was established in 2003 to promote geosciences and its application for the benefit of humanity, specifically in Asia and Oceania and with an overarching approach to global issues. Asia Oceania region is particularly vulnerable to natural hazards, accounting for almost 80% human lives lost globally. AOGS is deeply involved in addressing hazard related issues through improving our understanding of the genesis of hazards through scientific, social and technical approaches. AOGS holds annual conventions providing a unique opportunity of exchanging scientific knowledge and discussion to address important geo-scientific issues among academia, research institution and public. Recognizing the need of global collaboration, AOGS has developed good co-operation with other international geo-science societies and unions such as the European Geosciences Union (EGU), American Geophysical Union (AGU), International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), Japan Geo-science Union (JpGU), and Science Council of Asia (SCA).
This summer school addresses the analys of urban microclimate data (“from sensor to science”), where participants will go through all the necessary steps to analyse their own microclimatological dataset (with a focus on urban temperature time series). Next to the hands-on exercises with the dataset provided by the participant, the program also includes lectures, an urban climate walk in the city of Ghent and an excursion to the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium in Brussels. The participation is open for PhD students, post-docs and early career scientists from COST member countries and will be reimbursed by the COST action. Interested candidates can apply by sending their CV, including basic skills as well as a motivation letter till 14/04/2023 to the summer school scientific coordinator Prof. Steven Caluwaerts.
The Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event (JURSE) is a forum of excellence where researchers, practitioners and students present, share, and discuss their latest findings and results. A very dynamic version of the Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event (JURSE) will take place in May 2023, organized by the Remote Sensing Lab of FORTH in Heraklion Crete, Greece. This event is committed to introduce innovative methodologies and technological resources recently employed to investigate the manifold aspects of the urban environment through orbital and airborne remote sensing data.
The EGU General Assembly 2023 brings together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.
BUCSS22 aims to provide a general introduction to different facets of urban climatology with a special focus on urban climate informatics. BUCSS22’s goal is to provide structured information and skill-building capabilities related to urban climate monitoring, remote sensing and modelling, thereby strengthening an active pool of young scientists to tackle the major urban sustainability challenges of future generations. We plan state-of-the-art lectures and hands-on tutorials on remote sensing in urban areas, crowd-sourcing and urban climate modelling at various spatial scales taught by young and senior researchers.
COVID19 has resulted in the postponement of the ICUC11, which will now be running Aug 28 – Sept 1, 2023. The International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC) hosted the virtual poster conference in 2022 to ensure ongoing engagement in our community. This event provided an opportunity for the community to come together in an interactive and engaging virtual space to share our research. Members of the community had the opportunity to present posters in a virtual poster room, with poster sessions held throughout different time zones so that all can be involved. We also presented a series of keynote speakers, special sessions, and networking and professional development events
10th International Conference on Urban Climate/ 14th Symposium on the Urban Environment
The CitiesIPCC Cities and Climate Change Science Conference aimed to inspire the next frontier of research focused on the science of cities and climate change. The conference was organized by CitiesIPCC and was held in Edmonton from March 5-7, 2018.
