The Bochum Urban Climate Lab invites applications for the Bochum Urban Climate Summer School 2026 (BUCSS 2026), which will take place from 14 to 18 September 2026 at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany.
Applications are open now until 08 February 2026 23:59 CET.
BUCSS is aimed at Master and PhD students as well as other early-career researchers who wish to explore the intersection of urban climate, data science, and artificial intelligence. The program combines lectures, hands-on workshops, and interactive sessions designed to foster interdisciplinary learning and collaboration.
Participants can expect:
- To meet renowned speakers on urban climatology
- To meet the founders and junior experts of the advancing field of Urban Climate Infomatics
- Hands-on work with urban climate data from different sources
- Machine learning / AI applications in urban climate contexts
- Collaborative exercises, poster sessions, and networking
- Excursions or off-campus activities to ground the research in real urban settings
- A joint conference dinner and social activities
Travel Grants:
To support participation from students and early-career researchers from underrepresented regions, a limited number of travel grants (up to €800 each) will be awarded. Applicants may indicate their interest and provide a short motivation letter as part of the application process.
Fees:
There are no participation fees. Participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs unless awarded a travel grant. Social events may involve a small extra cost.
